Pull-Up Banner Guide: Standard vs Premium, Sizes & What the Stand Hides

Pull-Up Banner Guide: Standard vs Premium, Sizes & What the Stand Hides

Pull-up banners are the workhorse of indoor display: a printed graphic on a spring-loaded base that sets up in about a minute, packs into a carry bag, and travels to the next event. They look simple, and the good ones are. The difference between a pull-up that looks sharp for years and one that creases, sags and gets binned after two shows comes down to the stand, the artwork setup, and using it for the job it was built for.

Here is our pull-up range, how the two models differ, the numbers that matter for artwork, and the honest boundaries on where a pull-up belongs.

Two models: Standard and Premium

We run two 850mm-wide pull-up banners, and the choice is a hardware decision more than a print one.

Standard 850mm. A compact base with swing-out feet and a three-section pole, giving a visible graphic of 850 x 2000mm. It is the cost-effective, reliable option for everyday use: retail promotions, reception areas, events and conferences, anywhere a banner needs to go up, do its job and pack away again.

Premium 850mm. A wider, heavier base built for presence and stability, with a taller visible graphic of 850 x 2100mm. The extra base weight sits the banner flatter and steadier, and the heavier construction is what you want when the stand is on display day in, day out, or in a premium setting where the hardware is part of the impression.

The honest split: Standard for portable, frequent, price-sensitive use; Premium for permanent or high-visibility placements where a more substantial stand is worth it. Both come with the carry bag and the pole, both set up the same way, and both carry the same warranty, covered below.

The numbers that matter: what the stand hides

Every pull-up hides part of the print in its hardware, and knowing exactly how much is what separates artwork that lands from artwork that gets its logo swallowed by the base. Our allowances are:

  • Top rail: 10mm of the print is hidden in the top rail.
  • Base: 90mm of the print feeds into the base.

So the total print is 100mm taller than what is visible:

  • Standard: file size 850 x 2100mm, visible 850 x 2000mm.
  • Premium: file size 850 x 2200mm, visible 850 x 2100mm.

And because hardware sits right at the edges, keep important text, logos and images inside the safe zone: 50mm from the top and sides, 150mm from the bottom. That gives an internal safe area of 750 x 1900mm on Standard and 750 x 2000mm on Premium. Our pull-up artwork guide covers the full file setup, but those four numbers, 10, 90, 50 and 150, are the ones to write on the wall.

Setting one up

Assembly takes about a minute and needs no tools:

  1. Unpack from the carry bag and rotate the feet 90 degrees so they sit perpendicular to the base.
  2. Connect the three pole sections into one support pole and seat it in the slot at the back of the base.
  3. With a foot on the base, pull the banner up steadily with one hand while holding the pole with the other, then hook the top rail onto the pole's clip.

Two habits that keep a pull-up looking new: pull the graphic up straight and steady, keeping it clear of the base's sides, because letting the print rub the base is what causes creasing, and if the banner is not standing square, pull the top rail gently forward or back to align it rather than forcing it. Rewind the same way, slowly and straight, and it goes back in the bag flat.

Indoor only, and the warranty says so

This is the boundary worth being direct about: pull-up banners are an indoor product. The base is not weighted against wind, the print is not built for UV or rain, and the mechanism is not sealed against weather. A pull-up on a footpath in a breeze will go over, and the print will crease or tear.

Our warranty reflects this. Any weather-related damage, wind, rain or UV exposure, voids it. If a job needs to live outside, it is a different product: a PVC banner with proper fixings, or a rigid sign. Our PVC banner guide covers the outdoor options.

What the warranty covers

We publish our pull-up warranty in full, and it applies equally to Standard and Premium. The short version:

  • Pull-up mechanism failure: covered for 3 months from delivery.
  • Base or pole damage, print defects (mis-cuts, scratching), and transit damage or missing items: must be reported within 3 business days of delivery, with photos.
  • Resolution is a replacement unit or part where available. Refunds are not offered; reprints or replacements are the remedy.

Not covered: outdoor use, user damage (dropping, incorrect setup, mishandling), unauthorised repairs, print issues from supplied artwork (low resolution, missing bleed, poor setup), colour variation, normal wear and tear, lost parts, cosmetic marks, and tearing or print pull-out from incorrect installation or outdoor exposure.

Two practical notes from the fine print. We do not stock spare parts for stands, though if components are available we will try to help. And for colour-critical jobs, request a production sample before the full order, because colour variation is outside warranty. Inspect deliveries on arrival and report anything within the three business days.

Ordering

To quote a pull-up we need the model (Standard or Premium), the quantity, and print-ready artwork at the correct file size for that model. Multiple designs in one order are fine, each supplied as its own PDF named with its quantity. Like everything we make, pull-ups are trade-only and blind shipped, so resellers and designers can supply them as their own.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Standard and Premium pull-up banners? The hardware and the visible height. Standard has a compact base with swing-out feet and a visible graphic of 850 x 2000mm; Premium has a wider, heavier base for stability and presence, with a taller 850 x 2100mm visible graphic. Both include the pole and carry bag and carry the same warranty.

How much of the print is hidden by the stand? 100mm in total: 10mm in the top rail and 90mm feeding into the base. That is why the file is 100mm taller than the visible graphic, 850 x 2100mm for Standard and 850 x 2200mm for Premium. Keep important content 50mm from the top and sides and 150mm from the bottom.

Can I use a pull-up banner outdoors? No. The base is not weighted for wind, the print is not built for UV or rain, and weather-related damage voids the warranty. For outdoor use, specify a PVC banner or a rigid sign instead.

What warranty comes with pull-up banners? The pull-up mechanism is covered for 3 months from delivery. Base or pole damage, print defects and transit damage must be reported within 3 business days with photos. The remedy is a replacement unit or part; refunds are not offered. The same terms apply to Standard and Premium.

How do I stop the print creasing? Pull the banner up straight and steady, keeping the print clear of the base's sides, and rewind it the same way. Print rubbing the base during setup or pack-down is the usual cause of creasing, and it is not a warranty fault.

Do you sell replacement parts? We do not stock spare parts for stands. If components are available we will try to assist, and lost parts such as poles or bags may be offered at cost where stock exists, but it is not guaranteed.

Key takeaways

  • Two 850mm models: Standard (compact base, 850 x 2000mm visible) and Premium (wider, heavier base, 850 x 2100mm visible).
  • The stand hides 100mm of print: 10mm in the top rail, 90mm in the base. Files are 850 x 2100mm and 850 x 2200mm respectively.
  • Keep critical content 50mm from the top and sides and 150mm from the bottom.
  • Setup is tool-free in about a minute; pull straight and keep the print clear of the base to avoid creasing.
  • Indoor only. Weather damage voids the warranty.
  • Mechanism warranty is 3 months; everything else must be reported within 3 business days. Replacement, not refund.
