Gloss FLX Posters
The effect is produced with Canon FLXfinish+ technology on our Colorado M-series. Matt and gloss are printed in the same pass using the same UVgel inks, and the finish comes from how the ink is cured. It is not a varnish or clear coating. This means gloss only works where CMYK ink is printed: white and unprinted areas of the poster cannot be made gloss. You choose the gloss areas by adding a spot colour named "FLX" over your printed artwork, and everything else prints matt.
Posters are printed on 200gsm Yupo FPU, a tear-resistant, waterproof polypropylene stock used for street furniture and light box posters, making them suitable for indoor and outdoor display. They are cut square or rectangular on our Zund table, in custom sizes from A3 (297 x 420mm) up to 1200 x 2400mm.
Job Summary
Gloss FLX Posters
Gloss FLX Posters add gloss highlights to a matt print without varnish or lamination. Printed on our Canon Colorado M-series using FLXfinish+ technology, the gloss and matt areas are produced in one pass with the same UVgel inks, so the gloss sits in perfect register with the artwork. Because the gloss is in the ink, it applies to printed areas only. Printed on 200gsm Yupo synthetic stock and cut on our Zund table, they suit retail campaigns, point of sale, product launches and premium display posters where a standard print would not stand out.
Matt and Gloss in One Print
Gloss highlights are printed in the same pass as the matt artwork, using the same inks. There is no separate varnish or laminate step, so the gloss lines up exactly with your design.
Gloss Where You Print It
Gloss appears where your artwork contains the "FLX" spot colour over CMYK ink. Highlight a logo, a headline, a product shot or a pattern, and leave the rest matt. White and unprinted areas cannot be gloss.
Durable Synthetic Stock
200gsm Yupo FPU is a tear-resistant, waterproof polypropylene stock with 99% opacity, used for street furniture and light box posters. It suits indoor and outdoor display.
Sustainability
No Varnish or Laminate
The gloss effect comes from how the UVgel ink is cured, not from an added coating. That means no varnish, no laminate film and no extra consumables.
Recyclable Stock
Yupo FPU is made from polypropylene and is 100% recyclable (plastic recycling code 5). It contains no wood pulp.
Low-VOC UVgel Printing
Printed on our Canon Colorado M-series using low-VOC UVgel inks cured under LED lamps. This low-temperature process reduces emissions and energy use while producing durable prints.
Solar-Powered Production
Our facility operates on a 99 kW solar system that generates most of our daytime energy. Every print run helps lower carbon output and supports sustainable manufacturing.
FAQ
It is a matt poster with selected printed areas finished in gloss. The contrast between the two finishes makes the gloss areas catch the light and stand out from the rest of the design.
FLX refers to Canon FLXfinish+, the technology that prints matt and gloss finishes in the same pass. "Gloss FLX" means a matt print with gloss highlights.
Matt and gloss are printed with the same UVgel inks in a single pass, and the finish depends on when the ink is cured. No varnish, clear coat or laminate is applied.
No. The gloss is a finish in the CMYK ink itself, so ink has to be printed for it to work. White areas of your design are unprinted stock, and they stay as the natural matt surface of the Yupo. An FLX spot colour placed over a white or unprinted area will not produce a gloss finish.
No. Spot UV and spot gloss are clear coatings applied over a print. They can go anywhere on the sheet, including over white, and can feel raised. Gloss FLX is a change of finish in the printed ink, so it is flat and works on printed areas only.
Supply one PDF with your CMYK artwork as normal. Create a spot colour swatch named "FLX" and apply it as a 100% fill to every area that should be gloss. Place the FLX shapes on top of your CMYK artwork and set them to overprint, so the colour beneath still prints. Make sure there is CMYK ink under every FLX shape. Use solid vector shapes only, with no tints or gradients. Everything without the FLX spot colour prints matt.
Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat and go to Print Production, then Output Preview. Make sure Simulate Overprinting is ticked, then view the FLX separation on its own. It should show only the areas you want in gloss. Then turn the CMYK separations back on and confirm there is printed colour under every FLX area.
The file will be rejected, as this product requires an FLX spot colour. For an all-matt poster, order from our standard poster range.
Put gloss on solid, well-inked colour. Dark and saturated colours show the strongest contrast, and pale tints show it weakly. Keep gloss elements bold, such as logos, headlines and product images, and avoid fine lines and small text.
No. This product is a matt print with gloss highlights.
Any custom width and height from A3 (297 x 420mm) up to 1200 x 2400mm. Posters are cut square or rectangular only.
No. Each Gloss FLX Poster order is one artwork (one kind), and you can order as many copies as you need. For different designs, place a separate order for each.
Yes. Yupo FPU is waterproof, tear-resistant and UV-resistant, and is used for bus shelter and street furniture posters. UVgel inks are durable outdoors without lamination.
No. A laminate would cover the print with a single finish and remove the gloss effect.
For orders placed before the 1pm cut-off, orders up to $500 are dispatched the next business day, up to $1,000 in two business days, up to $2,000 in three, up to $3,000 in four and up to $4,000 in five. For larger orders, the dispatch date is shown in your Job Summary. Prices are ex GST.
Once your order is placed, it cannot be changed or cancelled. Our system sends jobs straight into the automated queue within minutes to keep turnaround times fast. Please check your artwork and order details carefully before confirming. You’ll always get a final warning at checkout to make sure everything’s correct before we start production.
We deliver each job to one address only, and each Gloss FLX Poster order is a single artwork, so there is nothing to split pack. This helps us maintain fast, efficient production and trade pricing. If you need an order sent to multiple addresses, we recommend using a third-party logistics partner who can split and distribute for you. We can suggest trusted providers who specialise in this type of fulfilment.
We don’t offer artwork setup or design services because we’re a trade-only printer. Our focus is production, not design. However, our system automatically checks for common file problems like missing bleed or trim boxes, helping your job move smoothly through prepress. This ensures files print accurately and without delays.
All orders are prepaid unless you have an approved trade account. Trade accounts are available for resellers who meet certain criteria, including an annual spend above $20,000 and a strong credit record. Once you reach that level and have a consistent order history, we’ll review your eligibility through our credit partner. This approach helps us keep pricing competitive for all trade customers.
We aim to meet or exceed every listed turnaround time. While courier delivery is outside our control, our internal production runs at over 99% on-time dispatch. If something unexpected happens, we’ll always communicate quickly and do our best to minimise any delays.
Yes, absolutely. If you’re planning a large run or testing a new design, it’s a good idea to order a small production sample of that artwork first. This lets you confirm colour and how the gloss effect looks before committing to a full order. Our minimum order cost is low, making it easy to test before scaling up.
Gloss FLX Poster pricing is based on a true cost, linear metre production model rather than a per-unit or square metre estimate. These posters are produced in continuous runs across the width of the material, and multiple copies of your poster can often be nested across the roll before an additional linear metre is required. As quantities increase, pricing may remain the same until the next full row or length of material is needed, at which point it steps up. This reflects the real cost of material usage, printing time, cutting, and waste, ensuring transparent pricing with no hidden cross subsidies. Gloss FLX also prints more slowly than a standard poster, and this is reflected in the price. Compared to per-unit pricing models, this approach delivers more predictable costs and better margins for resellers, particularly when layouts are well optimised across the width of the stock.
No. Gloss FLX poster orders must be placed as one artwork per order, using the materials, sizes, and turnaround times available in our system, and we’re unable to accommodate one-off variations outside of those options. This product follows defined print and finishing workflows to ensure a consistent finish, clean trimming, and predictable handling, and our scheduling depends on those system settings to maintain reliable lead times. We do not have a workaround for bypassing the system for individual jobs, as it introduces variability and production risk. If you regularly require a different configuration in volume or see sustained demand across customers, we welcome that feedback for consideration as a future system enhancement.
