Corflute® A-Frames: Flat-Pack Footpath Signs With No Metal Frame

Corflute® A-Frames: Flat-Pack Footpath Signs With No Metal Frame

A Corflute® A-frame is a footpath sign with no frame at all. It is one sheet of 3mm Corflute® printed on both sides, cut and creased, and shipped flat. Your client folds it into a tent shape, locks the tab and stands it out the front. When the campaign ends, the next one costs about the same as the print.

That makes it a different product from the steel sandwich board most people picture when they hear "A-frame signs". This guide covers how the Corflute® A-Frame is made, the sizes we run, where it earns its place, where it doesn't, and how to order it.

Mediapoint is a trade-only wide-format printer in Derrimut, Melbourne. Since 2006 we've printed Corflute® signs, A-frames and display products for sign shops, print resellers and agencies Australia-wide, white-labelled and blind-shipped, so your clients only ever see your brand.

What a Corflute® A-frame actually is

The whole sign is a single piece of 3mm Australian-made Corex Corflute®. We print full colour on both faces with UV inks, then cut the outline and crease the fold lines. It leaves us as a flat sheet.

Your client folds the sheet along the creases into an A shape and pushes the interlocking tab home. The tab is what holds it: no hinges, no clips, no separate panels and no metal frame. Fold, lock, stand.

On all sizes except A3 you can add an integrated carry handle, a slot cut near the top of the folded board, which is what gets a sign carried out every morning instead of left inside.

If a client already owns a metal A-frame and only needs the panels, those are ordered as Corflute® print only to the frame's size, not as this product.

Why resellers sell the flat-pack version

The traditional sandwich board is a hardware purchase: a frame once, new panels each time the message changes, and somewhere to keep the frame in between. That doesn't suit most of the jobs resellers quote.

  • Light. It is a sheet of 3mm Corflute®, so one person carries a stack of them under one arm.
  • Flat-pack. Twenty signs ship as a flat bundle, not twenty frames on a pallet.
  • Cheap enough to replace per campaign. The print is the sign. When the special changes, the client orders a new one instead of swapping panels.
  • No frame to buy or store. Nothing for the client to source separately and nothing for you to hold stock of.

Double-sided, same or different artwork

Every Corflute® A-frame is printed on both sides, and each side can carry the same artwork or different artwork. A cafe can show breakfast on the side facing the station and lunch on the side facing the car park. A real estate directional can point left on one face and right on the other, so the one sign works from either approach to the corner.

Where it earns its place

Shopfront specials and cafes

Today's special, happy hour, "yes we're open" during roadworks. The message changes every few weeks, and a sign that costs about the same as a reprint makes that easy. This is the classic cafe A-frame sign job without the frame.

Open homes and inspections

Agents carry directionals from the boot to the corner and back several times a Saturday. A light A-frame with a carry handle is built for this. The wider set of boards agents order is covered in our real estate Corflute® signs guide.

Events and wayfinding

Registration this way, car park left, toilets right. An event needs many signs with many different messages for a day or two, and none of them need to outlast it. A sign plan with thirty messages is still one order.

Multi-location campaigns

A franchise or agency rolling one campaign across many sites needs the same sign with different store details in different quantities. That goes through as a single job when everything ships to one place, such as head office or your own premises for distribution.

If you are weighing an A-frame against a pull-up banner or standee, our portable display guide sets the options side by side.

Where it doesn't: wind and permanent use

The lightness that makes it easy to carry makes it easy to blow over. Corflute® is water-resistant and the UV inks are made for outdoors, so weather is not the issue; wind is. Tell clients to place it against a wall or out of the wind line, and to weight or secure it in exposed spots. We do not publish a wind rating, so don't quote one. Our wind damage and Corflute® signs guide covers how corrugated board behaves in a gust.

It is a promotional, temporary and semi-permanent sign, not a permanent pavement sign. A client who wants the same sign out the front every day for years is better served by a heavy metal A-frame. Scope it honestly and you avoid the call when it ends up in the gutter.

Artwork and templates

Download the template for your size from the Download tab on the product page before you start. The crease lines, locking tab and handle slot are in fixed positions, and the template shows where they fall on each face. Artwork that ignores them ends up with a headline folded through the crease or a logo cut out by the handle.

Supply a print-ready PDF for each artwork kind. The portal runs automated file checks and shows an online proof before anything goes to the flatbed. We don't offer a design or artwork service, so the file needs to arrive finished.

Ordering, turnaround and delivery

One job can carry unlimited artwork kinds in uneven quantities: three of one design, twelve of another, one of a third. A single sign is a valid order, so order one as a sample if the client wants to see it fold and stand before committing to the run.

With artwork approved before 1pm, orders up to $2,000 plus GST dispatch in 2 business days, up to $3,000 in 3, and up to $4,000 in 4. Larger orders show their production date in the Job Summary before you commit. There is no express or priority option.

Every order is blind-shipped to one address with no Mediapoint branding, straight to your client if you want. The address cannot be changed after ordering, so check it before you confirm, and place a separate order for each site if a campaign ships to more than one.

What to call it in your own marketing

Corflute® is a registered trademark of Corex, and resellers are not permitted to use the word in their own marketing. On your website, quotes and invoices, sell these as corrugated plastic A-frames or corrugated PP board A-frames. We use Corflute® here because we are naming the board we buy. The same applies to everything on our A-frame signs page.

FAQ

Is a Corflute® A-frame the same as a sandwich board sign? It does the same job, a two-sided sign standing on the footpath, but it is one folded sheet of board with no frame. Sandwich board usually means a steel or timber frame with panels in it.

Does it come with a metal frame? No, and it doesn't need one. The sheet is creased and tabbed so it folds into an A shape and holds itself up. It arrives flat-packed. We don't sell metal A-frames at all.

What sizes are A-frame signs available in? 600 x 900mm, A1 (594 x 841mm), A2 (420 x 594mm) and A3 (297 x 420mm). The carry handle is available on every size except A3.

Can each side have different artwork? Yes. Both sides are printed as standard, and each face can carry the same or different artwork.

Can it be used outdoors? Yes, for temporary and semi-permanent use. It is water-resistant with UV inks, but it is lightweight, so weight or secure it in windy spots. It is not a permanent pavement sign.

Can one order go to several addresses? No. Each order ships blind to one address, and the address can't be changed after ordering. Place one order per delivery address.

Do you supply artwork or design? No. Use the template from the Download tab, supply a print-ready PDF, and the automated file checks and online proof pick up problems before production.
