How We Package Our Boards

Packaging - MediaPoint

Video Transcript:

Hey guys, it’s Jamie here. We constantly get asked how we package our boards. Well over the years we’ve had much trial and error in packing our boards. When we first started the business, we started flatbed printing, we used to start by bubble wrapping our boards. What we found is over time with couriers gone to very farthest nations, especially the northern territory, we find these deliveries get knocked around a fair bit and get a lot of damage. From that we’ve come up with our own way of packing, which we include on most orders, just depending on the size of the order and if it’s viable or not.

On very, very large items this is probably not viable to do sheet sizes and everything but we’ll always pack things in a way which is most suitable for delivery. What we do with this little board order. What I’ve got here is we got about 20 boards, little awkward boards as you can see here. What we’ve done is, we’ve got foam at the top and the bottom of the face, so the whole face size. Down the sides a bit of foam as well and the back as well. By having that extra cushion around the boards you’ve got extra protection there. If the boards get hit at the corner by a courier dropping it, it’s got a lot of protection there.

It would have to be absolutely annihilated for it to get damaged. On top of that for most of our orders that are getting dispatched, not the pick ups, we also make custom boxes that fit these items. That’s not a loose box where they can move around and get damaged, it’s a really tight box. We do this so the items don’t move and don’t get hit in transport and shifting in a box and slapping into something else. Couriers love our packaging, the reason being is they can put items on them and it won’t crush and damage what’s in there. That’s the reason why we do that.

Some of our customers have gone on to the way we pack and they’ve asked us in the odd occasion to do split deliveries or some unique packing that they need for the customer. For example, we had one customer just a few months ago that had a nationwide dispatch, that had different quantities going to each location and they needed us to pack over 80 items to go all around the country. We printed the whole job, we packed the whole job and we dispatched the whole job for them. We did it all in house, so we didn’t outsource any of that. The packing side of things with the split deliveries is not a core business of ours, however, we can help certain customers in a jam.
