Destination 3000, one of our existing clients in Melbournes CBD offering contemporary furniture recently came to us looking to re-brand one of their A-frames.

They wanted to use one of their existing stands, however the old design was not getting enough foot traffic through their store. So they came to Mediapoint for a solution to help solve their problem.

At Mediapoint we have a sticker stock with a block out adhesive. What this means is that it will cover up anything underneath it without showing through any images or text. This is perfect for covering up any errors or re-branding with a tight budget. We also laminate this stock to protect it from any issues that may arise from being outside, such as being knocked over.

In regards to design, for where you need to capture the imagination of your audience quickly, less is always best. As this is a new store, the client wanted everyone to know that they were open so this made the message pretty easy to communicate. When you have too much text or points to get across, you may run the risk of confusing your intended audience.

Gabby our designer had input into this and red was the best colour to communicate the message. The reason being is when consumers see red in any retail environment, their first thought is of a sale. Sales are the most common way to get consumers through to your store.

With the original design we were able to keep the logo going down the side of the frame, while having the new ‘NOW OPEN’ text covering the rest of the frame.

Overall the customer was happy with this solution and has noticed increased foot traffic to their store. This is a cost effective solution which will last for many years to come and is a wise branding investment.

For more information on this great product and where stickers can be used to benefit your business please have a look throughout our website.

EARL Canteen placed another re-order with us, on our Short Term Stickers.

Our Short Term Stickers are made with a vinyl material rated for at least a single years use outdoors, meaning that they are waterproof and UV (fade) resistant. These stickers are perfect for relatively short term or disposable applications.

We’ve phasing out our current range of eco-solvent based inks/printers, and moving towards water based inks/printers. There are many benefits for not only us, but also the customer. Water based inks have virtually no dry time, which allows us to start cutting/finishing your order much faster than before. This will eventually lead us to shorter overall turnaround times, and quickly get those stickers to when you need them the most.

The water based inks are now more environmentally friendly, when compared to the chemical solvents used previously.

However the biggest topic with switching over to new printing technology is colour consistency.

We need to ensure that our existing and repeat customers are aware that there colours may not be exactly the same as before. Although the inks are just durable, there made by a different manufacturer, and not all inks are created equally. One company’s idea of a dark blue may not be the same as another company’s dark blue.

There can be some fiddling around with settings to ensure that the printer colour is exactly what the customer is after, especially in digital printing.Digital printing uses the 4 bases colours of CMYK to achieve a print. It works in a very similar process as a standard inkjet printer, where tiny amounts of CMYK ink are dropped onto the material to form an image.

However the good folks down at EARL were able to provide us with a Pantone colour as a reference, and we were able achieve a colour that they were quite pleased with.

For more information on our sticker range, check out our Stickers page or send us an email at info@mediapoint.com.au

Genetics Australia recently came to us over the Christmas break needing a solution for the first week of January. They had a large space to fill for a trade show and were on a tight deadline as most other suppliers were shut over the break. Luckily they knew they could count on Mediapoint to meet their deadline.

To fill their space they needed some inexpensive but visually appealing and portable. So we recommended corflute. However the client did not want something too thick for the walls they were applying this to. So we recommended 3mm instead of 5mm.

To ensure this met the customers needs we did a production sample so they could test the sign in action to ensure it met their needs which it did. The customer then supplied over 20 files making over 40 signs.

Our prepress department had their work cut out ensuring everything was fine. We printed this using a 3 year stock with great abrasion resistance and mounted this via our mounting machine. Also with our new HP Latex printer we were able to print these with vibrant colours and no banding apparent.

The customer was delighted we could meet their deadline needs. They had a successful trade show and are able to use these graphics again. For more information on this and our other products check out our stickers page.

The process of which labels on rolls go through is simple, however, if something may go wrong the price for fixing the mistake may be time consuming and costly for us, so we make sure everything runs smoothly. Fox Studio Australia recently ordered labels on rolls with rounded corners. In the small size that the stickers were in we were abel to fit 3 columns across the material being used, this saves on material and also gives our costumers the cheaper price. We print our labels using our new Rapid X1 Inkjet Printer which gives us a very good quality print at a fast speed, then we place our printed stock into our labels on roll cutting machine were each individual sticker is then cut to size and at the same time removes the outer stock, which we don’t need, off the roll itself. After all the stickers are cut we then use our counter machine to make sure we have the correct amount of labels on each roll before we package and send to our client.

Fox Studio also had us do a colour match for the unusual stock that they wanted to use so it was important for us to chose the closest colour to match the Pantone colour code that was given to us. Once the colour match was approved by Fox Studio the job was ready to be printed and begin the labels on roll process. In the end, Fox Studio’s labels came out looking at a high quality and client was very please.

This entry is about Freenet Warehouse, who regularly comes to us to have their C-Tick stickers printed on our Premium Sticker range.

Our Premium Stickers are made with both material and ink rated for at least 3 years use outdoors, meaning that that are waterproof and UV (fade) resistant. This particular type of sticker offers great versatility and can be used in a wide variety of application.

There stickers present us with one main challenge, a small size sticker. There stickers measure in at a tiny 25mm (W) x 8mm (H), and have very little inner bleed.

Almost all cutting made by automated machinery isn’t perfect, and can deviate from the cutline (where the stickers should be cut) by up to 1-2mm. We recommend placing any important elements or details at least 2-3mm away from the inside of the cutline, just in case the cut isn’t spot on.

We refer to this area of 2-3mm as ‘Inner Bleed’. ‘Outer Bleed’ is also needed around the outside of the cutline for the same reason, but isn’t as critical. Outer Bleed can easily be applied post design and preprint, whereas Inner Bleed should be taken in consideration during design.

Bleed setup is essential in professional printing, as it allows room for any deviation that may occur when cutting. Without adequate bleed and depending on the design, an off cut can lead to an unappealing sticker (as it may appear lop sided), or having important information simply cut off and no longer being displayed on the sticker.

Unfortunately for Freenet Warehouses stickers, there design doesn’t allow for this appropriate inner bleed. Our production staff pays extra attention when cutting small size stickers to ensure the stickers are cut properly, and come out looking brilliant.

These stickers came out looking perfect, and the customer was very pleased with the final result. I’m quite confident Freenet Warehouse will keep returning to us in the future.

It was fun to work with an unusual die-line for a change and who would not want a desktop calendar with the proud owners of Mediapoint on the front We wanted to showcase our latest digital printer that we brought in, which is the HP L25500 Latex Printer. The DL size desktop calendar sits pretty nicely next to your computer or on your desk. The thick stock on which the calendar is folded in sits very firmly and upright, they were also printed using an offset press which by far gives us the best printing quality. Incorporating the latest Mediapoint identity elements (the square pattern) with our corporate colours into the calendar design was done intentionally, this way people can see the changes we have undergone through out the year, not only in our visual identity but also in our growth as a business such as upgrading our equipment and developing a wider range of possible solutions for our customers needs.

The calendars are a fun and professional way to keep in touch with our costumers and letting them know that we are approachable and to show our wide rage of offset printing. Other offset printing we can do are flyers, posters, business cards etc… Have a look on our website and see for your self.

Murdoch University, a magnificent institute of education located in Western Australia came to us regarding sticker printing.

They’re repeat customers of ours, and are particularly fond of our Premium Stickers.

These stickers are made with both a material and ink rated for at least 3 years use outdoors, meaning that they are waterproof and UV (fade) resistant. These stickers are a great high quality sticker, good for just about any general purpose application.

There order required quite a bit of design and layout on our end. They needed us to place their logo for the Banksia Association onto a circle shaped sticker, and perform multiple Pantone colour matches.

Their design was easily edited, as it was a vector graphic. In a nutshell, a vector graphic is another format for how the image data (the data used to tell us what the image looks like) is stored. Artwork in a vector format can be easily adjusted to any size or colour, and still remain immaculate (sharp and crisp).

Vector graphics are preferred for printing, as there easily editable and will ensure you receive the sharpest possible print every time. However they can only be used to for images with simple or limited colour. The Banksia logo is a perfect example of what can be vectorised. A photographic image (eg. a photo taken by a camera) wouldn’t be suitable as there is just too much detail and colour.

Murdoch University also had a colour requirement with their stickers. They need to maintain consistent colours across all of their branding, and specified a few Pantone colours that we needed to match.

We had to setup our machinery and colour profiles in a very specific fashion to achieve Pantone matches. I’ll go further into colour matching and digital printing in another entry.

In the end, we were able to setup their design perfectly, and achieve a very close colour match. They were very impressed with the final outcome, and I’m sure will be returning in the future.

Coming close to Christmas time, at Mediapoint, we wanted to do something special this year to treat our valued costumers and friends at this special time of year. Being the only female and designer in the building naturally this was a job for me. Getting organised was the first step, deciding what we where going to do then making sure everyone knew what was going on and making sure it ran smoothly. The first date I booked in for everyone was our Christmas card photo shoot day, where we all dressed up as either Santa, Mrs Santa Clause, an elf, a Christmas tree or the Grinch! When we finally had an hour to spare during our busy printing schedule, we posed and had some fun during the process and in the end I had plenty of shoots to pick from for the Mediapoint Christmas cards.

For the Christmas cards we needed a DL size card (one sided), this size is generally the best for postage, and luckily enough we supply these ourselves. In regards to the design of the cards I simply just wanted it to be festive (hence the red colour) and to focus on the photo of the Mediapoint team in the front since we put so much effort in dressing up. After I finished the design for the card, it was not long after that I had 500 cards ready for me to hand write and ship out… Funny enough I got a small taste of what Santa really feels like every year dealing with all does names!

To our special supporters of Mediapoint we had a little surprise for them stuffed in their package. So this means that the packaging for the little gift had to be made presentable so I quickly wiped up a bow sticker design to wrap around the black box as a final touch to the gift box. Using our premium gloss sticker material, a contour cut was used for the sticker and for a faster turn around time they were made sheeted, this gave me an easier way of peeling them off the backing paper and applying each sticker to its own individual box. I was very pleased with the results and I was glade to hear that our special supporters appreciated the gesture and the thought.

Now as for the final touches, besides having to hand write 500 Christmas cards, because we wanted them to be personalised not simply a generic message, I also used eco friendly paper envelopes with a brown texture trough them as a contrast against the bright red card… Labelling, stamping and return addressing each envelope with both a personalised card and a Mediapoint calendar inside had to have been a team effort, however, I was simply glade to have gone through them all and finally have them all posted in time!

Over all being a printing business it was defiantly handy having my stickers printed as efficiently as I organised the Mediapoint Christmas cards and gifts for the year…

Defcredit (Defence Force Credit Union) came to us with a display problem. They needed to replace text on some already produced signage, as the finer details had changed. Rather than go through the hassle, expense and waste of purchasing brand new signage, they opted for a sticker solution.

What they required was a sticker rated for outdoors use, which would also cover up the previous design currently on display. This is where our 5 Year Stickers come in.

These are a high durability vinyl sticker rated for at least 5 years use outdoors, meaning that they are waterproof and UV resistant (won’t fade). They also designed to be a ‘block out’ material. A ‘block out’ material is completely opaque, and will prevent any image/pattern/colour underneath the sticker (ie. a previous design) from showing through.

Such a feature is tremendously useful if you’re looking to cover up text or images currently displayed. Even if the previous design is a solid black, and you’re applying a mostly white sticker on top, this material would completely ‘block out’ the black and display a stunning white.

This particular type of sticker is not a commonly known type of material, as most people are unaware of exactly what is out on the market. The printing industry can be rather vague, and we like to eliminate as much of that as possible here at Mediapoint. We ask you questions about how you’re going to use the products you plan to purchase, just to ensure that you get exactly the right type of product for your own unique situation.

There was also a time element involved, as they needed the stickers fairly urgently for dispersal to their offices right around Australia. We were able to meet their deadline, and ensure that their delivery schedule was still on track.

As these are more of a speciality product, we don’t have them listed on our website. For any information regarding this type of sticker, or other specific types of stickers, you’ll need to contact us directly for pricing and availability.

This entry is about a repeat Short Term Stickers customer of ours, Naturapetics.

There an Australian based company that specialises in natural pet and animal products. They frequently place orders on our Short Term Stickers for use in there packaging. They’re very satisfied with the high print and material quality that this sticker range offers.

Our Short Term Stickers are rated for at least a year’s use outdoors, meaning that they are waterproof and UV (fade) resistant. These stickers are ideal for short term or disposable applications, ranging from product packaging to promotional events.

Such a strong relationship between Naturapetics and Mediapoint was acquired over time. Like many of our customers, they started off small and progressed with us as they grew confident with what we offered. They’re highly satisfied with the level of service and the quality of product which we consistently deliver.

For previous orders, they had asked us to measure and create a custom shape sticker especially for their products. They were after a sticker that would conform to and contour around a spray bottle. Due to the stickers unique shape, we would need to measure and design a template to house their design.

To first design the template, we needed to find out exactly what shape/size the sticker would be. We achieved this by applying a clear film onto the bottle, and tracing out the desired shape straight onto the film. The film was then removed and photographed, this gave us an accurate template for the design in a digital format.

Through use of this template, we modified their design to conform to the new contour shaped sticker. We then sent the finalised design back to Naturapetics for approval, which they were absolutely thrilled with. We later began production on their stickers and they were very pleased with the result.
